Special programming this week as part of our summer break here at Kootenay Coop Radio, it’s a three hour show! Inspired by Oliver Wang’s Deep Covers series, the first couple hours are obscure and slightly less obscure funk covers.
This week, we’re super stoked to welcome Halifax-born, Calgary-based emcee bRavenous to the studio to talk about his latest album, Flaunting Imperfections. Hot on the heels of his 2020 release, Between the Lines, Flaunting Imperfections picks up right where BtL left off, with heavy hitting boom bap beats (courtesy of Uncle Fester, DK and more) and top notch guest emcees like Ghettosocks, DFE, Spesh K and more.
Before we get to the interview, we take some time to pay our respects to Gift of Gab, who sadly passed away a few weeks back. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform solo and as a part of Blackalicious on a few occasions, and his alphabet aerobics never ceased to amaze. He will be missed.
After a short Gift of Gab tribute (more to come next week), we play all Canadian goodness. Our country has problems, and we can and will do better. And we also have some kick ass musicians.
With the heat, we’re bringing you more heat, in the form of slow burners and languid summer tracks, before taking a bit of time at the end of the show to celebrate St-Jean Baptiste day.
